Margaret Alexander organized the Santa Fe Institute's first library in 1992 and has continued to provide library services to its diverse scientists. The Santa Fe Institute is devoted to creating a new kind of scientific research community that emphasizes multi-disciplinary collaboration in pursuit of understanding the common themes that arise in natural, artificial, and social systems. The Library works to foster scholarly communication within the Institute and among the global community of scientists who participate in its programs.

Miriam Blake is Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory Research Library. She has a background in the Library automation industry and has been active in developing digital library technology at the Research Library for over ten years. She was involved in the development and deployment of several major projects, including LANL Library's XML-based, large-scale, biblographic search engine (SearchPlus), the full-text search and browse application (Science Server), and, more recently, implementation of the aDORe repository architecture. Interests include digital library standards and repository interoperability initiatives, including OAI-ORE, as well as directions for libraries in the networked worlds of social software.

Holly Shipp Buchanan, MLn, MBA, EDD, is Associate Vice President for Knowledge Management and Information Technology, Director of the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center, UNM Deputy Chief Information Officer, and a professor in the UNM School of Medicine. She has over thirty years' experience in library and information science leadership in the fields of healthcare management and higher education. Before joining UNM's Health Sciences Center in 1997, Buchanan served as Director of Libraries and Association Professor at the Medical College of Georgia. Buchanan holds a BA in Biology from Georgetown College, an MLn from Emory University, an MBA in Management Systems, and an EdD in Education Administration from the University of Louisville. She is past president of the Medical Library Association and past chair of the Board of Regents for the NIH's National Library of Medicine.

Victoria Harriston is Manager of Library and Information Services for the National Academy of Sciences (The National Academies). She holds a Masters in Library and Information Science from The Catholic University of America (1982). In April 2007 she was named Special Libraries Association Delegate to South Africa, and she has earned numerous awards in her field, including the National Academy of Sciences Distinguished Service Award (2003), National Academy of Sciences, Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences Achievement Award (2004), and an SMI International e-Profile (2006). She is coauthor of "Towards World-Class Knowledge Services: The Customer Perspective: Information Outlook" (June 2003) and "Towards World-Class Knowledge Services: Part 2: Emerging Trends in Specialized Libraries: Information Outlook," (July 2003). In 2004, she presented "Innovative Partnerships for Digital Collections" at the Internet Librarian Conference.

Johann van Reenen is the Associate Dean for Research, Science and International Initiatives at the University Libraries. He is a Professor of Library Science and Adjunct Professor of Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico. Recent research and grant topics include enhancing communication and knowledge discovery among KARST scientists; library support of e-science and data curation; the future of science and technology collection development; the benefits of systems providing open access and connectedness; Web-based enabling of education and research; and consortial support for digital library initiatives and information technology manpower development in Latin America (see Latin American Knowledge Harvester project at http://laii.unm.edu/lakh/en/index.html).

George Roncaglia is the Program Manager for NASA's Scientific and Technical Information (STI) Program. He worked as a professional librarian for over twenty years- the last ten in Library Director positions within NASA, at NASA/AMES Research Center in California and NASA/Langley Research Center in Virginia. He holds graduate degrees in History, Library and Information Science, and Business Administration. He currently resides in Newport News, Virginia.

Dr. Elizabeth A. Titus has been Dean of New Mexico State University Library since July 2000. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Northern Illinois University, a Masters in Urban Planning from Wayne State University, and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Michigan. Dr. Titus has worked in academic research libraries in Michigan, Illinois, and, most recently, New Mexico. She has published and presented papers at national conferences on a variety of administrative topics including library statistics, facilities and space planning, library security, and pay equity.
